17  [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,18  By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),19  And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength,

Paul prayed to Jesus that He may grant them a spirit of wisdom and revelation. Jesus is able to give us wisdom and revelation into the deep knowledge of Him. He does this through the Holy Spirit. I can pray to Jesus for deep and intimate knowledge of Him. Eyes of the heart flooded with light. Great metaphor. He speaks of inheritance again here… The eyes of our hearts are flooded with lighso we can know and understand the hope in which he has called us, and how rich is the glorious inheritance in the saints.

Paul often speaks of inheritance. Inheritance is a gift that is handed down. I believe the gift of our inheritance is not only heaven in the after-life, but true life while we are still here. Paul wants us to get it. Understand our glorious inheritance.

He also wants us to understand that the greatness of his power is cannot be measured, and is without limit. This power is ours because we believe in Christ.
