29  For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and carefully protects and cherishes it, as Christ does the church,30  Because we are members (parts) of His body.31  For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.32  This mystery is very great, but I speak concerning [the relation of] Christ and the church.

V29 Naturally, we take care of ourselves. We care for our well being.

V30 We are parts/members of Christ’s body. Each of us are members of Christ’s body. Together we make up Christ in this life. When we are in sin, we separate from the body and Christ is not complete for others to see.

V31 When married, we leave our parents. We are no longer part of that family, but joined to another family. We must see that our priorities are realigned when we are married. My wife comes first, above all others. The two become one in the marriage. They are joined together. Just as when we are married to Christ through salvation. We are no longer part of the family of the world, but are joined together to Christ’s family. They become priority in our lives, not the former family before salvation.
