Thankfulness opens the door to My Presence. Though I am always with you, I have gone to great measures to preserve your freedom of choice. I have placed a door between you and Me, and I have empowered you to open or close that door. There are many ways to open it, but a grateful attitude is one of the most effective.

Thankfulness is built on a substructure of trust. When thankful words stick in your throat, you need to check up on your foundation of trust. When thankfulness flows freely from your heart and lips, let your gratitude draw you closer to Me. I want you to learn the art of giving thanks in all circumstances. See how many times you can thank Me daily; this will awaken your awareness to am multitude of blessings. It will also cushion the impact of trials when they come against you. Practice My Presence by practicing the discipline of thankfulness.

Psalm 100:4 – Enter His gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise His Name.

Thessalonians 5:18 – Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Today’s devotion is about finding thankfulness. It takes stepping out of your daily routine, slowing down and being aware of what you take for granted everyday. It is SO EASY to get busy with your life, that you take it for granted.

I had a friend tell me last week that when he was a senior in high school, he was a top football player on the varsity team. He had pulled a hamstring in the previous game and was in pain. The team was going visit a children’s hospital and he was aggravated that he was made to go. His attitude stank. He was busy, had things to do, and his leg was hurting him. During the visit, he met a young guy that causes a complete paradigm shift. He told me, “I have never forgotten that day, and it was over 20 years ago”. Here he was with a bad attitude because of his busy schedule, his leg was hurting, and he meets this guy that had no legs, and his utmost desire in life was to one day get artificial legs allowing him to one day take a step.

I believe that is what Sarah is getting at today. We are all guilty of taking things for granted because we get short-sighted due to our issues we face. It is necessary for us to be thankful, as it is the key to the most important thing in our lives, His Presence. Quiet time with God daily allows us to stop, refocus, and rise above our daily routines. We have legs that get us around! We have breath and health! We have so much to be thankful for. An ungrateful man is a selfish man. He is focused on himself only.

I believe that is why God tells us that thankfulness is key to entering into His Presence. No matter what our situation is, there are others that have it WAY WORSE than us. If we need go out and find them, then we need to do it. It is worth the effort to have a thankful heart.
