Therefore, rejoice on those days when you drag yourself out of bed, feeling sluggish and inadequate. Tell yourself that this is a perfect day to depend on Me in childlike trust. If you persevere in this dependence as you go through the day, you will discover at bedtime that Joy and Peace have become your companions. You may not realize at what point they joined you on your journey, but you will feel the benedicial effects of their presence. The perfect end to such a doxology of gratitude. I am He from whom all blessings flow!
Ok, couple things here. James must have been thinking along these lines when he penned:
Dear brothers and sisters, when trouble come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. James 1:2
Also as you may be aware, Paul went through tremendous sufferings in the name of Christ … shipwrecked, beaten many times, extended jail terms, etc. He wrote many of the epistles from his prison cell. This is a guy that had suffered, yet he wrote over 1/3 of the new testament.
Growing up, it was generally understood that if you are having troubles in life (financial, relational, job, etc) it may be because you do not have the faith or you may have some sin hidden in your life. Did we never read the new testament? Even Christ said in the sermon on the mount (Matthew 5) “Blessed are those who are persecuted for doing right”. God blesses you when people mock, persecute and lie about you.”
God is not there to remove troubles in your life (vending machine analogy). He many times uses the troubles to grow you and stretch you to lean on Him more.
Sarah is saying this in the devotional this morning .. When you are exhausted, look forward to the fact that you can depend on Him all the more. He will come though for you. You are not leaning on your own strength because it has left you. When you depend on Him, you are at a place that allows greater Joy and Peace than you can ever have if you traverse life without Him.
